Myrmecocystus placodops is widely regarded as the largest and most visually striking species within its genus available in the hobby. Known for producing impressive repletes and bold worker castes, this species represents a true long-term show colony for dedicated keepers.
These queens were field collected during verified flight conditions and are offered in limited quantities from our first major drop of the season. Availability will fluctuate based on flight activity and collection success.
This is not a beginner novelty species. This is a desert-adapted, slow-building, high-reward colony species best suited for keepers who understand founding patience and long-term colony development.

The Myrmecocystus depilis is a small but mighty honeypot species — often mistaken for M. mimicus, but with darker coloration and a smaller overall size. Despite their size, mature colonies of depilis grow large and produce repletes more readily than many of their larger cousins.

These queens are wild-collected in Texas during natural nuptial flights and offered unclaustrated, meaning they require feeding and attentive care from the start. This species is not recommended for beginners.
